Cardiac involvement in Churg-Strauss syndrome

چکیده
To define the range of cardiac involvement in the Churg-Strauss syndrome,M mode, continuous wave Doppler, and cross sectional echocardiograms were recorded in twelve patients with the disorder. The M mode recordings were digitised and the cross sectional images were recorded with standardised gain settings to determine regional myocardial echo amplitude. Left ventricular end diastolic and end systolic dimensions were increased above the normal 95% confidence interval in four patients, three ofwhom showed a depressed shortening fraction. Mitral regurgitation was present in six patients; this was severe enough to need valve replacement in two. Mean echo amplitude in both the septum and the posterior wall was significantly increased above normal by a mean (SD) of4-87 (2-57) dB, suggesting the presence ofmyocardial fibrosis. There was

Allergic granulomatous angiitis (Churg-Strauss syndrome) is a variant of systemic vasculitis characterized by pulmonary and systemic small vessel vasculitis, extra-vascular granulomas and eosinophilia. Clinical features include presence of asthma and/or allergic rhinitis with constitutional symptoms such as fever and weight loss. Multisystem involvement includes pulmonary infiltrations, m...

Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a rare multisystemic disorder of unknown origin and cardiac involvement is one of the most serious manifestations of the disease, accounting for approximately one-half of deaths attributable to CSS. Cardiac manifestation can be acute and mimic acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this setting checking the blood leucocyte count can reveal hypereosinophilia and lead t...

Cardiac involvement in Churg Strauss Syndrome is common and a poor prognostic indicator. Myocarditis in Churg Strauss Syndrome can present in different ways. It has been shown that basic cardiac investigations including echocardiography can be normal even in symptomatic patients. More recently cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown to be more sensitive in its diagnosis. Our cas...
متن کاملCardiac involvement in hypereosinophilic syndromes detected by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
Background The Hypereosinophilic Syndromes (HES) are a heterogeneous group of rare diseases characterized by blood hypereosinophilia and eosinophil-related organ damage with the Churg-Strauss syndrome as the vasculitic form of disease. Cardiac involvement was reported in 20-50% in earlier series. Yet, with improved diagnostic methods, the frequency of cardiac involvement is expected to be even ...

OBJECTIVE Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is a rare form of systemic vasculitis. Previous studies showing cardiac involvement in CSS patients were limited in the number of patients and were often based solely on clinical manifestations. The aim of the present study was to determine in detail the incidence of cardiac involvement in a large population of ambulatory CSS patients. METHODS Thirty-two...
متن کاملChronic eosinophilic pneumonia as a presenting feature of Churg-Strauss syndrome.
We report on a case of Churg-Strauss syndrome in a 30 year old male with a history of perennial rhinitis. The syndrome began nine months earlier with clinico-radiological features typical of chronic eosinophilic pneumonia. Diagnosis of vasculitis was made by skin biopsy, and at that time there was multisystemic involvement with pulmonary, cardiac, renal, cutaneous and muscular disease, and righ...
